What's a "CEU"?
"CEU" stands for "Continuing Education Unit"; the amount of credit given for participating in a continuing education course or training session. CEUs are formal post-degree or post-certificate training exclusive of educational programs in specialty areas: courses of study that refresh; update and enhance knowledge, skills, and experience of professional personnel. Many professions such as the National Safety Management Society and the Institute for Safety and Health Management require the individual to complete a specific number of CEUs to maintain their license or certification.
After completing a course, you should submit the following information to help make sure the organization to which you are requesting CEU credits does so:
- the number of contact/study hours to complete the course (Usually one hour per OSTN course module)
- course objectives/outline
- description of content presented in the course
- methods of instruction
- course completion certificate
To help make sure organization you are asking to grant CEUs does so, it's a good idea to print a copy of the course outline along with your course certificate when asking for CEU credits.
