One-Minute Safety Sermons
As an added feature to OSTN's free online safety training, I've added audio clips I call "
Steve's One Minute Safety Sermons." Now you can quickly download audio snippets that highlight different safety topics I've presented during my workshop training sessions.
Some of my students have commented that I come across a little "preachy," but that's fine with me because I am on a mission to help people get "saved" from injury or illness in the workplace. So, that's why I decided on calling these clips one minute safety sermons.
CSHM Certification Preparation
I'm working hard on compiling new hardbound version of my online CSHM certification preparation website at www.cshmprep.com. Last month you learned the online training is free to members of the National Safety Management Society (NSMS). See www.nsms.us for more information on that.
The new hardbound version will contain over 2200 study questions and related answer keys. I can't imagine anyone failing the 150-question CSHM exam after seriously studying the questions. Although the questions are not identical, they are similar, and in most cases, "harder" than the exam questions.
The hardbound version should be ready for printing by the end of May. Look for it at the OSHATRAIN website and the
CSHM Prep website.
On-The-Job Training Guide
NIOSH has published a new publication about coaching for on-the-job training...altho. it focuses on the mining industry, it might have some concepts that you can incorporate into your training program.

This guide contains materials for teaching a one-day workshop that will better hone the knowledge and skills of trainers/coaches selected to conduct OJT. The guide has been formatted as a notebook divided into five sections:
- Developing a coaching program discusses considerations for setting up a formal OJT program.
- Conducting a workshop explains how to set up and conduct a workshop to train experienced workers to be successful OJT coaches.
- Instructor’s notes for workshop provides support for safety and training professionals who would like to conduct a workshop.
- Slides for workshop gives hard copies of slides that can be used during the workshop.
- Student workbook is trainee materials that coaches follow during the workshop and take with them to use as reference material as they practice their coaching skills.
