Program Description

The 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health Program is intended to provide workers with some safety responsibility a greater depth and variety of training on an expanded list of topics associated with workplace hazards in general industry. The Program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

Free Access

You can register on our website, access our training material, including quizzes online, and complete all of our courses for FREE. OSHAcademy only charges a small fee if you want to receive a certificate to document your training. Other online training providers charge a fee to access training material and do not give you the option to choose the type of certificate you receive. This is a significant difference between OSHAcademy and other providers.

Module Quizzes

Each course is organized into modules. At the end of each module is a quiz designed to help the student self-assess their understanding of the course content. After submiting their quiz answers, the student is presented with the correct quiz answers. Quiz results are not recorded and can be taken multiple times.

Course Exams

After studying the course material and taking the module quizzes, students can take the course exam. The course exam is designed to test the students understanding of the course material. Final exams are composed of multiple choice questions selected from our extensive question bank.

Exam Characteristics
  • Students have two hours to complete each course exam.
  • The exams are open book. You can use your notes or the study guide to help answer questions as needed.
  • You must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass each exam.
  • If you do not pass an exam, you may retake it.
    • Students are only allowed to take an exam three (3) times within a 48-hour period.
    • After the third attempt, students must wait 48 hours before attempting the exam again. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • After each exam, students will receive an email with references (module and tab) to content associated with missed questions. Students are encouraged to review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • If you pass each exam, you may not retake the exams to raise your score.

No, they are voluntary. OSHA recommends outreach courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers. However, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island have enacted laws mandating the training. Also, some employers, unions, organizations or other jurisdictions may also require this training.

No. All of our training is free to access, but once you complete and pay for the training, you will receive an OSHAcademy 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health wallet card. If you do need a DOL card for your employer, please go to our training partner, Quality Safety Training.

Yes. Students and employers can validate a program or course certificate using our website. It's quick and easy! Best of all, by validating a certificate, you will know the certificate is valid and was issued by OSHAcademy. On the other hand, OSHA does not provide individual verification of student course completion cards or authorized trainer cards.

Yes. OSHAcademy training exceeds OSHA Outreach training as each course in this program has individual quizzes and an open book final exam. This ensures you throughly understand the content.

Yes. OSHAcademy training exceeds OSHA Outreach training by providing an OSHAcademy 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health wallet card, program certificate, and two transcripts. OSHA Outreach training students receive only a completion card.
