Many states require an employer to establish a safety committee/team to support a safe
and healthy workplace. Unfortunately, too many safety committees/teams lack the leadership needed to be effective.
This program is specifically designed to help develop the knowledge and skills of the safety committee/team leader
(also called the chairperson). With a trained leader in place, committees will be able to have the momentum to be a
powerful force for positive change within an organization.
As a committee leader or chair, you have an increased level of responsibility to support the safety
committee and other employees. You have likely been selected as the committee chair due to your impeccable
leadership skills. You should complete this program so you can:
Learn how to effectively manage a safety committee or team.
Fine-tune your leadership skills.
Understand your responsibilities.
Learn how to define your safety committee or team as a "safety consultant."
Work towards gaining additional safety responsibility.
Improve your resume.
Safety committees should have representation from both management and labor, as well as various departments.
This ensures both strategic and day-to-day operational perspectives are considered when managing safety within an
organization. In order to effectively monitor progress and direct the affairs of the safety committee, it is useful for
a committee leader or chairperson to be appointed. This program will help committee leaders within your organization:
Promote safety goals within your business.
Educate employees on the importance of working safely.
Brainstorm solutions to hazards and accidents.
Reduce the risk of workplace injuries and illnesses overall.
Positively affect your bottom-line by reducing injury claims.
Learn how your safety committee can improve the quality of your business.
This online training program is designed for safety committee leaders or chairpersons
who guide and direct the affairs of a safety committee.
This program also benefits individuals seeking to reach their career goal of becoming a
safety committee leader. This program helps you develop the essential skills you will need
for your future job as a safety committee leader.

Each course is organized into modules. At the end of each module is a quiz designed to help the student
self-assess their understanding of the course content. After submiting their quiz answers, the student is presented
with the correct quiz answers. Quiz results are not recorded and can be taken multiple times.
After studying the course matieral and taking the module quizzes, students can take the course exam. The course exam
is designed to test the students understanding of the course material. Course exams are composed of multiple choice questions
selected from our extensive question bank.
Students have two hours to complete the course exam.
The exam is open book. You can use your notes or the study guide to help answer questions as needed.
You must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass the exam.
If you do not pass the exam, you may retake the exam.
Students are only allowed to take an exam three (3) times within a 48-hour period.
After the third attempt, students must wait 48 hours before attempting the exam again. During
this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
After each exam, students will receive an email with references (module and tab) to content associated
with missed questions. Students are encouraged to review the course material to improve their understanding.
If you pass the exam, you may not retake the exam to raise your score.
Like most safety training, our certificates "certify" you have completed a formal course of study.
OSHAcademy certificates do not certify you as a "qualified" safety professional or trainer. And,
of course, OSHA does not "certify" anyone as a qualified safety professional either.
