Rick Hemion
EH&S Site Safety Mgr.
Alabama

"In October of 2018, I retired from the Army with 22 years of service and no real idea of what to do next. I applied for a few jobs and was hired on by a corporation who was the Integrated Facilities Management contract for the Army Installation I retired at. I started as the Transportation and Training Supervisor assigned to the EH&S Department, managing the fleet of work trucks used by the tradesmen and I maintained all of the employee training records.

After starting the position, I was sent to a 40-hour HAZWOPER program so I could assist the department with spill cleanup when needed. My supervisor also had me sign up for an OSHA 30 hour Construction Safety and Health program online and that is when I found OSHAcademy. When I finished the 30 hour course I started to explore the OSHAcademy website and came across the page for Veterans Discounts. I requested to enroll in the 40-hour EM 385-1-1 Construction Safety Hazard Awareness for Contractors and I got the training for FREE. I could not believe it, so I completed the course and then signed up for the 192-hour Construction Safety and Health Professional program. Shortly after I completed these courses, a safety position opened up in my department. With the training OSHAcademy provided me I was able to get the safety position and a 2 dollar raise without the required degree. Now I am the EH&S Site Safety Manager.

OSHAcademy is helping me to continue my education in safety. Their training is helping me to continue to build our safety program and grooming me for success. I would like to say thank you to the staff at OSHAcademy for investing in our Veterans and their futures."
