Water and Sewer Industry Safety

Companies in this industry operate water treatment and water supply systems; sewer systems and sewage treatment facilities; and steam and air-conditioning supply systems. Employees in this industry face a number of hazards including trench and excavation cave-ins, respiratory protection, falls, electricity, chemicals, struck-by, and more.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, for every 100 employees in the water, sewage and other systems industry 5.3 employees were injured in 2019. 3.1 out of every 100 employees were injured severly enough to cause them to miss work or require a job transfer or restricted job duties. There is a clear need for employees to know the potential hazards they may be exposed to and how to protect themselves.
