Established in Vermont and New York, SunCommon is not just an ordinary solar installation company. With around 200 employees and a decade of experience in both residential and commercial solar installation, it is their exceptional commitment to safety and community that sets them apart.

SunCommon places an unwavering emphasis on the safety of its employees. Safety manager Justin Highet emphasizes their desire for every staff member to finish their day just as they started - safe and uninjured. He adds, “We legitimately care about our employees.” Marketing manager Tavit Geudelekian added, “Operational excellence and humanity are two ways to see safety in our company…. Work-life balance is very important to us.” For SunCommon, safety isn't just about preventing costs associated with accidents; it's about caring for their workforce, whom they consider as friends and family.

Employees are extremely involved in the company’s safety culture. Currently, the full installation team holds toolbox talks every other week. They are valued and ask questions, reaching out if they need different equipment. Employees are aware of management's efforts to improve equipment and consistently provide safety suggestions. Field personnel are required to have OSHA 10 certification and the management team is required to take OSHAcademy’s 30-hour Construction Safety and Health Program. Also, every person who touches a roof is required to take OSHAcademy course 805 Fall Protection in Construction.

Geudelekian says it is very important that current and future SunCommon customers know their crew is not going to get hurt while installing the solar panels. SunCommon executives believe the crew is the most important asset. Geudelekian adds, “If you have a crew that shows up confident and knows how to keep themselves safe, it is going to translate to our customers. We want to make sure that the crew is top-notch.”
